Grady Sizemore Named Futures Game MVP

Akron OF Grady Sizemore, part of the sizable swag acquired from the Expos for Bartolo Colon, singled and homered for the US to win the Larry Doby Trophy (appropriately) as the Futures Game MVP. Sizemore drove in the first run for the US with his first-inning single off A’s uberprospect Rich Harden, then led off the third with a homer off Expos righty Seung Song.

Sizemore follows in the footsteps of current major-leaguers and Futures MVPs Alfonso Soriano (1999), Sean Burroughs (2000), Toby Hall (2001) and Jose Reyes (2002). Fellow Indians farmhand Victor Martinez was selected to the World team but did not play due to his recent promotion to the major leagues.
