the indians interleague road trip continues with a visit to florida to play the marlins. not the same marlins, mind you, who won the illegitimate 1997 world series – illegitimate because the team of mercenaries was dismantled immeditely after the season ended, and a fluke because jose mesa failed to hold the lead in the 9th inning of game seven and the error and the bloop single…in any case, i’m not over it yet. the indians did manage to salvage the series in colorado – they won two of three against former tribe assistant gm dan o’dowd’s club (is it me, or do the indians and rockies kind of resemble one another this year?) including sunday’s game, when bartolo colon pitched well enough, tribe hitters – especially john mcdonald – hit well enough and the bullpen held up. bartolo colon had a bunt hit yesterday, helping his own cause. (i am keeping track of indians pitchers at the plate during this swing through national league parks, as they look so serious when batting…) there is interesting news down on the farm as jaret wright is making a rehab start at buffalo tonight, charlie nagy (the cartilage-less one) is making a start wednesday, and reliever/spot starter jake westbrook made a start yesterday in akron. so, we have pitchers. i am hereby suggesting that mark shapiro make an offer to relieve pittsburgh of that burdensome brian giles for ricardo rincon.
